Conditions of Practice


The CPRB has defined the following conditions of practice for both Clinical Physiologists and Physiology Technicians:

  • No conditions related to practice
  • Supervised – under supervised professional development
  • Supervised – required to complete a competency assessment (time limit may be specified)
  • Practice extended/limited to (specify extension/limitations to practice)
  • Other/Interim (specify) – This condition of practice may be used under Section 31 of the HPCA Act 2003 


Practicing Requirements related to Conditions of Practice:

A person employed in the role of a clinical physiologist or physiology technician, or other role as specified from time to time by the CPRB, must fulfill the following practice requirements to register with the CPRB and be eligible to apply for an annual practicing certificate:

No Conditions to practice

  • Be a member of the appropriate professional society/societies, and
  • Holds the appropriate professional certification from the professional society/societies or a recognised professional certification from an oversees professional body as approved by the CPRB, and
  • Has completed the minimum requirements for professional development as recognised by the CPRB.

Supervised practice

  • Be a member of the appropriate professional society/societies, and
  • Be employed in an appropriate physiology service, and

Either:

  • Be following a course of professional development and working towards professional certification as laid down by the professional body, or
  • Be enrolled on a competency assessment plan.

Practice extended/limited to

  • Be a member of the appropriate professional society/societies, and

For limited practice:

Successfully completed a recognized course of professional development, and any professional certification as laid down by the professional body, in a single defined area of clinical physiology (e.g.: cardiac sonography)

For extended practice:

  • Successfully completed a recognized course of professional development, and any professional certification as laid down by the professional body, that adds to the body of knowledge and skill of the person allowing them to practice in an extended field within or outside of their professional area, e.g. Spirometry

Other/Interim

  • Be a member of the appropriate professional society/societies, and
  • Be required to practice within a highly defined set of conditions as decided from time-to-time by the CPRB or as mandated under the HPC Act 2003 pursuant to Sections 31 (and 29) of the Act.

Conditions can be viewed on the public register, by opening the profile of an applicant and looking under  "Conditions" .
Conditions can be added, removed or may be permanent at the directive of the CPRB.

Registrants may apply to have a condition removed or added. For instructions please proceed to the Remove or add conditions of Practice page (login with email address and password required).
